Industrial Design Engineering

Students with ADHD often find it challenging to focus.

During the initial research phase of this Design Engineering MEng group project, we found that students find working with someone else present in the room helps them.

We decided to create a product that would replicate this presence, allowing those students to work effectively on their own; the outcome was the Google Nest Companion.

(Please note this project is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google)

The Companion responds to your levels of focus (monitored via a microwave sensor and phone tracking) with subtle movements and facial expressions. It is able to set timers, displayed via the LED bar on the front, and provide statistics to  share your achievements and reflect on how you work best.

As creative lead for the group, my primary responsibilities were the  concept, aesthetics, packaging, app, and the  presentation of the product under the Google Nest brand.
